Hops flowers are an herbal nervine that have relaxing and sedative effects on the central nervous system.
They are best when used as needed to ease restless tension that may produce headache, indigestion or insomnia (hops has been put into pillows and added to evening teas).
Hops flowers are also known to help cleanse the lungs and kidneys. Hops farmers noticed that harvesters "fatigued" more rapidly and women's periods arrived early, (sedative, menstruation promoter).
Hops have been recommended to reduce the desire for alcohol and ease Delirium Tremens (DT's).
This may seem like a contradiction because hops are used to make beer, but think about it. By the way, hops are added to prevent beer from spoiling.
They contain two chemicals that kill bacteria. This confirms the use of hops as a minor herbal antibiotic.
Do not use this sedative if suffering from extreme depression.
