Gingivitis (Bleeding Gums, Gum Disease, Pyorrhea)
By Steven Horne, RH (AHG) & Kimberly Balas, ND

When bacteria get into the space between the teeth and the gums, they can cause inflammation (gingivitis) and a breakdown of the gum tissue. This leads to bleeding of the gums. pyorrhea is a discharge of pus or an advanced form of periodontal disease associated with a discharge of pus and loose teeth.

A thorough cleaning by a dental hygienist is highly recommanded. The following may also help.
It is absolutely essential that the teeth be brushed and flossed several times daily. After cleaning the teeth, brush with a mixture of black walnut, white oak bark and goldenseal powders. Leave of the powder on your gums for 5-10 minutes (or even overnight) and then rinse.

These herbs fight infection, strengthen tooth enamel and gums, and contract tissues ro arrest bleeding. Other herbs that can be applied topically to the gums to reduce bleeding and inflammation include bayberry root bark and Calendula.

Brushing the teeth with XyliBrite toothpaste will inhibit the growth of the bacteria involved in gingivitis. You can also apply Silver Shield Gel directly to the gums to kill the bacteria and promote healing.

Using Colloidal Minerals as a mouth wash will also help to stop bleeding. Swallow the Colloidal Minerals after swishing them around in your mouth so that you increase mineral levels in the body, too. You can also use Nature's Fresh as a mouthwash. It is even more effective if you add a few antimicrobial essential oils.

Internally, Co-Q10 helps reduce the gum inflammation. It also helps with reducing inflammation in the cardiovascular system. In fact, gingivitis is an early warning sign of developing heart disease.
