PENNYROYAL EXTRACT
Hedeoma pulegioides
Properties: Antispasmodic, carminative, diaphoretic, emmenagogue,
stimulant.
Parts Used: Whole herb.
Historical Uses:
Pennyroyal has traditionally been used in folk medicine as an
emmenagogue to relieve menstrual pains and to
stimulate menstrual flow, especially in cases
of delayed menses.
It has also been employed in the treatment of rheumatism, cough,
nervous tension, and to relieve flatulent colic. Externally, Pennyroyal
is said to repel insects.
Contraindications:
Avoid during pregnancy.
Adverse reactions:
Toxic when ingested in excess.
Dosage: 10 to 20 drops after meals.
Externally apply as needed.
