Female organ tonic to regulate menstruation.
Blue cohosh root has also been known as papoose root, squaw root, yellow
ginseng and blue ginseng.
It is used to regulate menstruation and relieve rnany kinds of muscle cramps
and spasms.
It can increase perspiration and urine production.
Caution:
The berries are poisonous. For the last month of pregnancy, it is used to
stop early false labor and used at the start of labor to insure easier dilation
and birth.
For rheumatism and arthritis pain, Wade Boyle, N.D., suggests using
blue cohosh for rheumatism of the joints with stiffness and erratic pains
in the small joints but that black cohosh should be used for muscular rheumatism,
with heavy, tensive aching pain.
For menstrual pain and delayed menstruation, experience of
herbalists indicates use of blue cohosh for coldness and a sense of congestion
and fullness with leg pain but use of black cohosh for dull aching and tense
ovarian pain with sense of soreness and dragging in womb.
