STOMACHACHE (children)
By Louise Tenney

A stomachache can occur in a child at any age for a myriad of reasons.
They are common during the childhood years and are rarely serious.

CAUSES
A stomachache can be caused by a number of conditions such as nervousness, worrying, food poisoning, eating too much, constipation, eating too fast, medication, food allergie, additives, or even environmental pollutants.

Watch the child to see if other symptoms are present. If it lasts more than a few hours and there is a fever, nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, headache, it may be a more serious condition and a medic professional should be consulted.

Food allergies are a common cause of stomachaches with children.
Cow's milk is often not tolerated by children an can make them uncomfortable and suffer pain.

HOME CARE
Make the child as comfortable as possible.
A hot water bottle on the stomach may help ease the discomfort. Try to see if the child is suffering from emotional concerns that may be causing the stomachache.
If the conditions worsens or other symptoms appear, check with a medical professional.
If vomiting or diarrhea are present, protect against possible dehydration.
